COMMUNICATION POLICY Communication is essential for school success. In a school which is attempting to teach Catholic Christian values, effective communication teaches our children constructive problem solving skills. If parents have any issue concerning their child that issue first needs to be articulated to the teacher, then, if unresolved, to the teacher and administrator of the school in a joint meeting. An issue should be discussed at the level from which it arose or with the person who is charged with the administration of the policy or event which gave rise to the issue. If a person wishes to speak to a teacher, it should be done by appointment. It is always best to make an appointment, preferably after school, unless there is an emergency situation. We ask that parents recognize evenings and weekends as times teachers spend with their families and away from school concerns and honor their right to have these times uninterrupted by school matters. A progressive discipline procedure is in place and a formal referral process will include parents, and the principal.
A Newsletter is sent home in Friday packets with the oldest child in the family. This letter contains all the important information and should be read weekly. A school calendar for the month is sent home the last week of the preceding month. Friday is the day that all important information is sent home either from the school or individual teachers. Parents should check backpacks on this day. Newsletters will be sent via email for parents who provide email addresses. Messages So that the instruction of the children is not interrupted, all messages should be delivered to the office, not to the child’s classroom. In an emergency, the secretary should be informed and an exception will be made. The telephone in the school office is a business phone. Students will only be allowed to use the phone with permission from an adult employee or in an emergency. The office personnel will contact the parents directly in cases of illness or injury.
